Any gardener knows that good soil is necessary to support plant life. And a garden full of good soil symbolizes the support Central New York women looking to escape addiction, abuse and poverty find at Exodus 3 Ministries.
Exodus 3 Ministries is one of Reformed Church of Syracuse's community partner ministries. The organization offers safe housing and services to women interested in growing and renewing their lives. Exodus 3 Ministries' mission statement reads, in part,
"Exodus House is a strength-based, solution focused program for women. Through our residency program, women are assisted with the skills and resources necessary to build a bridge out of poverty and to develop healthy, sustainable relationships with their families, service providers, faith communities, and the community at large."
Our church supports Exodus 3 financially but in other ways as well. When an RCS member recently learned of the need for some garden space for Exodus House, he built some raised-bed gardens for fruit and vegetable growing. It's just one more way we are hoping to reach out to others in our community and plant seeds of encouragement.
The Witness Committee invites you to join us for a potluck supper at the church on May 8th at 6:00 pm, followed by a presentation by Pastors Suzi and Jim Harriff, about the rebirth and revitalization of Rwanda. Suzi and Jim will share in word, song and pictures stories of the miraculous rebirth and revitalization of Rwanda, a tiny African nation, in the aftermath of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi people. A freewill offering will be received, and authentic Rwandan coffee and samples of Rwandan handicrafts will be available.
The annual S.W.E.A.T. for Habitat Bowl-a-Thon is coming up on Sunday, February 8th, 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., at Bowl Mor Lanes in East Syracuse, NY. Youth and adults are invited to bowl and help raise money for Syracuse Habitat for Humanity. There is a sign up sheet for bowlers and sponsors in the church Narthex. Sponsors are encouraged to sign up and donate generously. Our church members have in the past few years collected some of the largest donations for the event -- let's continue our good track record!
