![]() RCS Disability Advocate Ellie Kinne, right, in the RCS sanctuary with her daughter-in-law Sarah Kinne. | The diagnosis of Ellie Kinne's hearing problem was not welcome news. She was told she was legally deaf. While the lifelong member of the Reformed Church of Syracuse could still hear sermons in the church sanctuary, thanks to a hearing device wired into that room's sound system, she felt the need to withdraw from her Sunday school class, which was not equipped. Ellie's Sunday school teacher approached then-new Pastor Ryan Cogswell, and together they worked out a way for her class to move to the sanctuary. Ellie's positive attitude coupled with their support has her back and participating in the group she so enjoys. Soon after, Ellie said God put it on her heart to volunteer as the church's disability advocate, a position she was officially granted in 2016. Her personal experience with disability has led her to help others, and also caught the attention of the denomination's magazine, RCA Today. Click here to read the story "Hearing Again" online.
